I was born in the 80s, in a communist country. Today we are in the year 2023 and I assure you that you’ll still find houses with a decoration from 30 years ago.
“Apartment 95” is where I lived for 6 years. Apartment for rent, in the center of Bucharest. An old couple lived here, he was a shoemaker and she was passionate about sewing. When the old couple passed away, their daughter rented out the apartment.
And here I enter the story. What did I find there? An impeccable communist apartment, an image of the past. The old furniture: a gem, that unfortunately had to disappear; it was too worn and smelly. But I kept the trinkets and miles. You will see some of the pieces found there in this series of paintings called “Apartment 95”.
A mix between past and present, between the image of communism and minimalist art.
